If you are married then you and your husband have two choices married filing jointly or married filing separately. If you have a child under 17 years old you are entitled to child tax credit both ways. You should figure your taxes both ways to see which is best for you. Generally it is best if you file jointly, but it really depends on your personal situation. This is a tax calculator.

You only have two options for 2008: Married Filing Jointly and Married Filing Separately. Some people mistakenly believe because they were married less than six months that they can still file as single, and that is not the case.

You miss out on a lot by filing MFS, so MFJ is usually better. You will still qualify for the child tax credit.
You can file as married filing jointly (MFJ) or married filing separately. In most cases, it is better to file as MFJ. Read http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/02/fili鈥?/a>
