Anyone know where to get married in either delaware or delaware county?

we are on a tight budget... so have around 6 grand for everything hoping to have the ceremony and reception at the same place. we were thinking about 120 guests...having trouble finding the place doesn't have to be fancy fancy.Anyone know where to get married in either delaware or delaware county?
Ooh, tough. I'm in DE. Best bet would be to call Talleyville Fire Co. You've got about 42/head to work with, consider the gratuity (18-20 percent) that needs to be added in. Also, hall rental costs, bartender costs need to be considered. Some places, the deposit comes off the overall meal, others it does not. A buffet is less than a seated meal. Five Points fire co. is further south in the Newport area and is a little less expensive. Cranston Heights, and Elsmere fire hall included.

Can you cut the guest list at all?

Mine was at talleyville, caterer Le Chateau Gourmet (which was the best wedding food ever)

I've been to five points for a lovely wedding. Cranston Heights and Elsmere have been updated in recent years and I have not been there since before the makeovers.Anyone know where to get married in either delaware or delaware county?
Delaware. Delaware is a beautiful state and I love it! I know you would love it too!

Is it possible to get married in Florida on a Sunday?

I was thinking of geting married and having a honeymoon at the same time. Is it possible to get married on a Sunday in the state of Florida - I'm a UK resident so any advice would be appreciated. Is it possible to get married in Florida on a Sunday?
Sunday is the day that most Jewish weddings occur. Since there are a lot of Jews in Florida, I'm sure it's legal.

And why would it be illegal to marry on Sunday? Is it possible to get married in Florida on a Sunday?
Hello, I am from Ireland and got married in Florida on a Saturday night on the Beach last may. What you do is go to the court house in the town where you want to get married and get a marriage licence it cost about 80 dollars I think then you must wait 3 days till you can marry, we paid a Justice of the Peace to Marry us on the beach. He just signed the licence to make it legal. We did need 2 witnesses so we just asked to people on the beach. So the licence needs to be got during office hours in the court house but the marriage to make it legal can be done anytime any day wherever you want.

What do you give as a gift to an older couple getting married?

My Dad is 58. He is going to marry someone a little older than him that is a widow. She has a home and just about everything else you can imagine. What do you give to a couple like this? What do you give as a gift to an older couple getting married?
A romantic getaway, spa certificate, bed and breakfast certificate, restaurant gift card, hot air balloon trip certificate, show tickets, theater tickets, ballroom dancing classes.... you get the idea. They don't need gifts or cash, they need romantic memories.

Good luckWhat do you give as a gift to an older couple getting married?
Tickets to a Broadway show or dinner gift card or gift card for a couples massage from your local spa you can pay for a weekend get away of there choice there is a lot you can get them. You can even make up a gift basket full of fun stuff for couples bubble bath some new robes/slippers massage oils maybe put in there a movie you know they would like some champagne glasses and a bottle of champagne or wine. You could even include in the basket a photo album that they could start adding pictures to after starting there new life.Best of Luck deciding
Cash is ok but as the son it's not personelle enough? Can you afford to pay the hotel suite for 1 night for them. or how about masssages for 2? Sorry i wish i knew what your budget was
Give them hotel stays, vacation tickets, gift card to dinner, theater tickets etc.
As a bride to be myself, I would love it if people just get me what I have on my registry. If the couple has not yet registered, ask your dad what they may need or want. Sometimes the older couples are already settled in their lives and have no need for material items, so cash is always a good thing to give.

If your dad has no idea what is needed, approach the fiance- i am sure she would know!
Give them tickets to their favorite event, music, movies or theater. If they are not in to any of that cash is always good. Or if you know their favorite restaurants buy them some gift certificates to them.
I would think she is feeling like an outsider; she is hoping you and the rest of your family will accept her as someone who loves your dad, and not trying to take the place of your mother. Something sentimental that shows that the children are accepting her as part of the family is the way to go.

I would make a photo album, fill it with pictures of the siblings at different ages, pictures of everyone with your father and her, and in the front have all of the siblings each write a one-page note saying how you wish your father and her a happy life together, and welcoming her to the family.

I think it would hold a special place in her heart, which is more valuable than any money you can spend.
cash is good at any age
something nice

gw
Nothing. At their stage of life they have everything and know that the beauty of the company of family is better than any gift of money or goods could ever be. Just hugs and kisses will be more than a heart can contain. (gag gag)
Ask your dad where they are registered, if they are, and pick something off that list.

Ask your dad what they'd like as a gift.

Pay for a hotel night for them.

Get them a gift certificate to a fancy restaurant.
Tailor this idea to their wedding and relationship,

Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:

Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!

The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.

Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.

Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.
I would think gift certificates to a good restaurant or to the movies. Or you could fix them a basket with things they like such as a movie basket filled with a couple of dvd's, microwave popcorn, Jr Mints or their favorite candy, a couple of cans of soda.

If they enjoy gardening then a basket with garden gloves, small shovels, seed packets, wind chimes, etc.

A snack basket to take on their honeymoon might include some individual sized bags of different flavored chips, peanuts, their favorite candy bars, fruits and some bottled water.

Of course you'd want to wrap the basket up in pretty transparent paper and attach ribbons and a card.

Good luck on your ideas!!

How come any woman who married a pastor became a pastor automatically?

1corinthians 14:34-35 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.

35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

why are men afraid to preach those verses above ?How come any woman who married a pastor became a pastor automatically?
Paul had views that were extremely common for that time period (and womens rights really didn't change until a couple hundred years ago), but the Bible was one of the few books at the time that actually did claim women should even be allowed to have rights, and be loved by their husbands. They are to have wisdom, the ability to teach, and also be political leaders. (Proverbs 31:26; Titus 2:2, Judges 4-5) The Bible stated that women could also work, make money, and be in business. (Proverbs 31:12-14,16,19-22, 31)

(Many societies today won't even give women the same rights that the Bible has given them for thousands of years.)

Also, women and men are of equal value and worth to God. All believers, male and female, are all considered as ';Sons of God'; without distinction. (Galatians 3:26-29) Women were also made in the image of God. (Genesis 1:27)

Plenty of pastors preach this. How come any woman who married a pastor became a pastor automatically?
I didn't know that because your husband is pastor that his wife also becomes the pastor....Oh boy, this Sunday I'm gonna do the sermon!!!

Are these some of the bible verses that were used to oppress women? Seriously, I think those verses have very little significance in the greater scheme of the bible and Christianity.
The word 'pastor' is the word for elder, not preacher. Any church who uses this term for their preacher isn't readng the Bible.
They'll be sued

...probably

At the very least women will stop donating money to them.
Because those men want to continue having sex with their women.
Pastorisation is required by health regulations.
Each time you post that out of context scripture, I will mail a used tampon to your home.
COME ON! Why are you so hung up on this?!!!
Wiill you stfu with this sexist crap? You really make me sick.

Has anyone been on the married life course that you need to go to if you want a catholic church wedding?

Whats it called? Is there a website about it?Has anyone been on the married life course that you need to go to if you want a catholic church wedding?
Pre cana. Google it and you'll see several site from different diocese concerning pre cana training.

Don't be concerned, compared to being marriage pre cana was a piece of cake.Has anyone been on the married life course that you need to go to if you want a catholic church wedding?
I went through the course over 27 years ago. It was called the Pre-Cana course at that time. You should ask your parish priest for details. You can try this website for more details: http://home.earthlink.net/~rickpen16/cat鈥?/a>
The idea of a course about sex and marriage held by a ';celibate'; priest (who might even be having some ';fun'; molesting his altar boys) seems totally funny and ridiculous.

I'd love to try one!
Ask the priest who is marrying you. Or type ';Catholic Marriage Prep'; into your Google browser.

God Bless
Pre Caana, I think.

  • Do you have to be married to adopt a child?

If you're single and have a good income, can you just adopt a kid or do you have to be married?Do you have to be married to adopt a child?
You can adopt if you are single. There are some foreign countries that won't allow you to adopt if you are single or under a certain age but for the most part, yes, you can adopt when you're single.

I am actually registered on the international adoption site that is run by the lady who wrote the following article:Do you have to be married to adopt a child?
It actually depends on which country you are adopting from, but most will allow single parent adoptions (although it is harder)
No but you must have a good, clean home and have a decent income and prove you can care for the child

Do Jewish couples who get married under the Huppah, have another ceremony?

That makes it legal in the country they live in. If they do what is the reason %26amp; if they don't why not?

I am going to a Jewish Marriage next week, so got thinking about this.Do Jewish couples who get married under the Huppah, have another ceremony?
It would probably depend on the laws of the country in which they live. I suspect that a marriage under a Chuppah would be legal in all US states provided all other laws are met. Here in our state as long as you have a valid marriage license almost anyone can perform the ceremony anywhere.

I believe what the first answer is referring to is the Ketubah which is a ';marriage contract'; which makes the wedding valid in Judaism, not necessarily valid as far as the government is concerned. Arkansas did recognize contract marriages as valid even without a license for anyone but I am not sure if that is still the case.Do Jewish couples who get married under the Huppah, have another ceremony?
they can if they want, but there is no need to. the reason being is that all modern law in western countries comes from the old testament which is the bible and rituals of judaism. eg. the 10 commandments.

if translated from the hebrew at weddings you would find that the words are very similar to any christian wedding.
actually the huppah ceremony is just for show also. the real marriage would of happened before, privately, with some papers being signed. I don't remember what its called. I had to sign the papers as a witness for my best friend when he got married.

Go to Cuba, marry him. Return and begin the paperwork for a visaIm a US citizen, my fiance is a Cuban citizen living in Cuba. What do we need to do to get married?
You would have to apply for a fiance/spousal visa, then he would have to go through a long immigration process.

However, the Cuban government would forbid him from emigrating. This rule may have been relaxed in recent months, what with relatives able to visit, but I doubt it.

He might be able to come in through Mexico, since DHS has apparently abandoned the approach of detaining every ';dry foot'; Cuban who crosses through Texas and began a policy allowing most Cubans to obtain immediate parole:

Best bet would be to contact an immigration attorney.

Can a non-EU national married to a British citizen come to the UK on a tourist visa and change her status?

My wife is Mexican and I am currently in Mexico with her. I am a British national. We wish to return shortly and do not have time to apply for a spouse visa. Is it possible for her to enter with a six month tourist visa and then apply for a spouse visa once in the UK?

Or does anyone know of any other solution? She has an appointment at the Mexican Consulate on August 6th but our flights are booked for August 2nd!Can a non-EU national married to a British citizen come to the UK on a tourist visa and change her status?
Yes it might JUST be possible - the web site says to get in touch if you want to change your conditions.

Should you do it ? NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

The tourist visa requirements state QUITE CLEARLY that if you are applying as a visitor then you should be a VISITOR.

Don't be stupid there is no quick solution. You need to apply for a spouse visa and be able to meet all the conditions. Trying to get around the rules will only get you a REFUSAL - you have no automatic right to have your wife be here.

as for Temmah B - yes she can have her spouse from anywhere in the world join her if she is a UK national so long as she is NOT in the UK but in another EEA country.

So if you move to any EEA country OTHER than the UK your wife can join you, to live and work freely BUT you need to be living together and should you split up she would have to go back to Mexico. Can a non-EU national married to a British citizen come to the UK on a tourist visa and change her status?
No. Spouse visa have to be applied for from country of residency. Why on Earth didn't you book your flights for a later date?! if I were you, I would change your flights. It may be a little more expensive in the short term but would save booking a whole new flight when she would have to return to apply for the spouse visa - which she would have to do.
No. They used to allow you to apply to change your status while on holiday but not anymore - they changed the law a few years ago. Your wife will need a spouse visa before she travels if she intends to stay in the UK. If you need to travel quickly you could always apply for her to join you later on. It's definitely not worth the risk of bringing her with you only to have her turned around in the airport and sent back home to Mexico without you. Just imagine how awful you would feel. :-/
Being married to a UK citizen automatically entitles you to stay in the EU.

I am married to an American (I hold a UK passport) and we live in Germany. He was given a 5 year working visa based on this. He will get an unlimited visa after the 5 years are up.
Delay the travel plans and apply for the Visa in Mexico.A tourist Visa will not suffice and she will have to return to Mexico for the proper Visa. You have no regrd for the Law and she will be deported.
nope. a tourist cannot change category (visa) in country. she needs to go back to her country and apply for a spouse visa.
No she cannot change her status from tourist to spouse - she would have to return to Mexico and make a fresh application to come as a spouse. Why doesn't she apply to come here as your spouse??? I don't understand why you are making it harder for yourself. They would probably deny her application for a tourist visa because she IS your wife - they would think that she was trying to stay in the UK and trying to jump the queue.

Honestly, the best thing you can do is apply for the spouse visa - I am trying to give you the best advice possible.

Any application you would try to make for leave as a spouse in the UK would be refused because of her status as a tourist.

It would be wise to read over the pages i have attached

You cannot apply for an extension of stay here in a different category - it would need to be in the category that you initially came to the UK as - in this case Visitor - and Visitors to the UK cannot stay more than 6 months and then they have to return home.

I am just asking that you think properly about this before you do anything rash - this is your future you should be thinking about and any silly decision now may damage future prospects.

How is it to be married to a plastic surgeon?

How is your relationship been affected if your husband or wife is a plastic surgeon? For instance surgery's such as breast augmentation.

Perhaps, you guys were first to each other and now you feel pressure becasue he is looking at other woman.

I understand some take it as nothing because it is a job, but i do hear stories of people who can not take it.

If you have forums I may visit, website, etc please list it. I need it for works cited....

    Thank you!

    * Personal experiences would be the best! If you may provide your name. thank you!How is it to be married to a plastic surgeon?
my cousin is a plastic surgeon.

he and i are more like brothers. i've met all his 'road kills'. (girlfriends, i used to call)

he did end up marring a girl. very ordinary looking, kinda flat chested, and under educated, but a woman of honesty, integrity, and highest of self esteem.

he says that hot women are the ones with self esteem issues. all of them.

you'll never make it as his wife... you're already too insecure. How is it to be married to a plastic surgeon?
All you gotta do is trust your husband. He should be used to looking at other women's body, of course not a big deal. Don't let other stories get in the way. My father is an eye doctor/consultant, and trust me, I hear stories from him that he tells to my mom -- and it is ridiculous. Like how some other women try to approach him and all -- but he laugh it off, why? Because my mom and us, we know he would not fall for it, because he is mature, have a family, and will not ruin it.

So please, knock it out and trust your husband. If he is the one you are talking about.
I LOVED the movie, ';Death Becomes Her'; with Meryl Streep, Goldie Haun and Bruce Willis.... who played a husband who was a plastic surgeon! HILARIOUS!
It has been said the sickest people around are the families of M.D.'s

Is it appropriate for a married man to be friends with his ex on FaceBook?

Long story short. I have been married for 5 years together for 6. We have 3 children. In the past my husband has drunk dialed ex girlfriends when we had problems. He has stopped doing this now -but I noticed he has one of the ex's on his Facebook account. I am very upset by this and feel completley disrespected. What is your opinion on this? Am I out of line for being upset by this, as he says it is completely innocent? Is it appropriate for a married man to be friends with his ex on FaceBook?
I have no problems with my wife being friends with her exs or contacting them. She loves me and I am not insecure.

We have a child and she has none with her exs.Is it appropriate for a married man to be friends with his ex on FaceBook?
You can be upset, that's fine and completely natural.

Now whether or not you should make a big deal about it is a separate question.

If you've been together for 6 years, have 3 kids and you've been without problems then why wouldn't you trust him?

It's just my personal opinion that the best policy in this sort of case is not to question someone unless you have a real reason. It shows that you have faith in your relationship and could have a positive effect instead of mistrusting him. Wouldn't assuming he has intentions toward her offend him if they weren't true, and cause problems in your relationship?

    Just my 2 cents
He's probably just nostalgic. There was a time when drunk, lonely, late at night, I used to ring up old acquaintances. People I normally don't think about when sober, responsible. It need not signify anything more. Its your choice whether to read more into it than just that. If I were you, I'd ignore it and get on with the relationship.

    # I think your husband needs you more than you realize. What can you do to help fill the void in his life?
    Tit for Tat hon.

Put a few of your exes on yours.

My boyfriend moved here from Hollywood...his ex is the naked motorcycle rider in 'Vanishing Point'. They still talk, and send pictures to each other.

I was bothered by it, now I have my own 'male' friends to take my mind off of it.

    LOL
I think you are overreacting- my husband and I both have ex's on our facebook but because we trust each other, there really isn't an issue and we remain friends with some of our ex's. This drunk dialing business however is UNACCEPTABLE.
normally, it's fine.. BUT, due to his past behavior, I'd keep an eye on it. did you ask him to take her off his list? tell him how you feel. if he doesn't seem to care, THEN you have every right to be upset.
Why does anybody want to be in contact with their exes anyway? They're all exes for a reason.

He might be completely innocent but if you say you're upset by it, he should bloody well listen.
Well do they flirt? Or are the just chatting about normal day-to-day things? I would not be ok with the flirting but with the chatting i would be fine with but it also depends how long each day he spends chatting to her.
I wouldn't like it, but it's not a big deal. you can tell him how you feel -nicely- and hopefully he'll understand.
no, tell him to drop it or go without sex for a month.
there.s nothing wrong with that. m op ion?

I'm just curious if single ladies engage in anal sex or if it just married women trying to please their husbands? Is anal sex just for married couples or do single ladies do it too?
All sorts of people do it- gay men, straight men who like anal play and get penetrated by their wives, lesbians, and married and single women.

I like this guy that is in this situation. He said he wanted to marry me, but I wnat to know the reason why their divorcing. They were together 3 yrs. Sh e suposedly left him because she didnt want to be married. But why did she have 2 kids and get married in the beginning? Please answer!!!!!Why do youbg couples get married, have a couple kids and divorce?
She was young and didn't know what she wanted.

Everybody in their teens and early twenties is gonna meet somebody that they're sure they want to spend the rest of their lives with... and it rarely works out.

People simply shouldn't get married so young. Why do youbg couples get married, have a couple kids and divorce?
28 and see this all the time. Ppl marry for the wrong reason and they know it. Most of the time they r more attracted to the idea of marriage but find its not all that's its cracked up to be once in it. Envolving kids comes from having sex with no protection or to save the marriage. Eventually it ends and makes the whole idea of marriage look kinda retarded to ppl like my boyfriend and I.

Its just lame. Even from a business perspective. When they seperate everything is seperated and that sucks, less money when income is not combined. As I'm writing this I got a new reason. Ppl get married and don't even know how to keep their word on little daily issues. Committment is something that is taught and practiced not just something u jump into.

    That's all I got.

    Detroit
Most people really don't realize what ';I do'; truly means. Today's judicial system makes it too convenient to back out of what is supposed to be a lifelong commitment. She had fairy tale hopes entering the marriage. She was hoping it was going to be something like you see in the movies. What she found out was marriage isn't always fun, and what truly defined the character of the couple is the ability to make it through the times that aren't so great.
because they are young and in love. they get really excited to be grown-up and get married and have that picture perfect family...but don't realize the difficulty and busyness of having a family and a real life including other people. It may seem great in the beginning and fun to be married and have kids. But then the couple realizes that they really can't work it out because they jumped into the marriage too quickly. But now they're stuck! So, they get divorced.
i think its a mental thing with some people;they may be very happy when they are not married but they see a marriage as something intimidating in their mind so they think they have to change and make themselves better because of the marriage.

The reason a lot of people have kids before they divorce is because they see a child as something they can put their attention on and maybe spend more time with each other and work round any problems they may have through the child
This is a fairly simple answer. People settle. They marry the wrong partner. They focus on the good qualitites and ignore the bad ones... until they are married and find they can no longer ignore those bad and annoying qualities. And they only get worse as time goes by. Now that I am married to my one and only soul mate, I can say that people should not marry unless there is absolutely NOTHING they would want to change about the person they are going to marry. Acceptance and respect are the key to a good and long marriage.
There are a lot of people in the world who don't really think things through. They just rush into commitments and relationships without worrying about consequences. They were probably just 2 kids who thought that they ';loved'; each other when they don't even know what love is. If I were you, I'd stay away from him. Chances are that the same thing will happen to you that happened to her. He must not think very much to be wanting to marry someone else in the middle of a different marriage.
She is the only one that can answer that question. I have no idea why she left him unless I knew her situation. Young people marry to be more grown up but once they say I do and live with one another they have no clue on how it works. Yes they play house for awhile and then bam the newness wears off and then they have no idea on how to make it work because they are still so immature.
because in the beginning, there is enough excitement and reasons to have sex. later, reality sets in and one or both people is faced with challenges that they aren't willing or able to deal with, so they bail out.

in some cases, problems could be avoided if the woman would just put out occasionally while they work on the issues, instead of freezing up until life is perfect, which will never happen, and meanwhile the man will get ornery.
Because people don't want to put forth the time and energy to make a relationship work. Life is full of ups and downs and it's a bit frightening how, when things get difficult, people decide to run. They don't accept responsibility for their choices and figure it's easier to scrap it all and just start with someone else. Someone better. Then, problems crop up in that relationship so they move on to another. Never once stopping to think they may have ownership in it. I guarantee you -- this marriage isn't ending just because of her.
People divorce for different reasons. You need to ask him directly. Strangers on the internet cannot tell you about the specifics of some random person's marriage.
Because there getting married to young.
people these days take marriage for granted

Im O Negitive and i married a O Positive can i get problems in having a Baby? nd My Periods are never on time?

Im trying to get pregnant, but i Cant.. Im a O negitive and my Husband is a O Positive what can i do... and im periods are never on time can i still get pregnant?Im O Negitive and i married a O Positive can i get problems in having a Baby? nd My Periods are never on time?
You have whats called the RH factor, and it will not effect you from getting pregnant at all. So don't stress about that. There are things you can do. I suggest you start by reading a lot and learning about your situation. I could tell you several things about it, but then this would be a really long answer. Good luck and best wishes. I am also O- with an O+ hubby.Im O Negitive and i married a O Positive can i get problems in having a Baby? nd My Periods are never on time?
I am o-ve and my husband is b+ve, so like your case, we have chances of the baby being +ve or -ve, if incase the baby is +ve , then you got to take a shot within 72 hours of your delivers, for the antibodies created in you during delivery. So that these antibodies does not affect the next baby. With regard to geting pregnant, as long as you are ovulating there is always a chance you can get pregnant. Just try to keep track of your periods and try to calculate the ovulation days, or use a opk insteed. All the best dear, dont you worry.

How come she never got married?

The other day I caught up with an old friend from graduate school I hadn't seen in more than sixteen years. We had lunch together and I asked her why she never got married. Clearly this was a painful subject for her that she did not want to discuss.

My friend is of east Asian origin. At 54 years old, she is still dazzlingly beautiful. She has three masters degrees, is kind, gentle, witty, and a terrific cook. How is it possible somebody like her never married? How come she never got married?
Maybe she made the decision not to for a lot of reasons. Asian women are often pressured into marriage and it might have been easier to just not get married rather than face parental/societal rejection.

There might be something in there about not wanting motherhood as well - we seem to judge women very harshly for not wanting children.

Either way, it's quite a personal question and it might be hard to explain that kind of decision to a relative stranger. How come she never got married?
It happens to some academics when they dedicate themselves entirely to their research. I've known quite a few female professors who never married. Some would just go from boyfriend to boyfriend, it's not like they were alone or anything.

There was a married woman in my department in grad school and we used to chuckle about how many kids she had and kept having during her stay. She had five children, two while in grad school, and her husband, we think, must've worked from home, because he was the one who took care of them all. That's just to show the diametric opposite of the case you have presented.
Maybe she was close to getting married at one time and either had a bad breakup or he died, and she can't bring herself to take the chance on it happening again. My boss is about that age, Chinese, and never married. I've never asked why, never thought it was my business. Wait a minute, you talking about my boss? LOL
just guessing. maybe she kept putting off marriage for her education until she got so old nobody wanted her. maybe she planned to marry someone but it didn't work out. maybe she had a relationship with a dude for years and he finally dumped her for someone younger. maybe that's what makes it painful for her to talk about.
    Because she loves her independence...

She's successful maybe she doesn't want a man in her life

and I find it funny that the guys that answered your question think it's about her education...they are misinformed...i doubt it has anything to do with that
Maybe she did get married and it turned out badly for her. Or maybe she never met someone she loved enough to marry. It's possible for absolutely wonderful people not to get (or stay) married, you know.
Perhaps she never found anyone she liked enough to marry. Or perhaps she was just too busy with her career. Or maybe she's a lesbian. How on earth would anyone on here know if you don't? I mean, she's your friend for crying out loud.
    3 things are possible...

    1) she likes being independednt...

    2) she never found the right one..

    3) you haven't seen her other side, maybe she is impossible to live with

What is more better, getting married to the wrong person or wait and act wise? read below?

obviously at the time of marriage, we do not know if the person is a good person because you just got married to him because a good proposal came and showed interest to u and ure family fixed it. so, is it fine to haste in getting married to any good proposal ( which may not be even good) or Wait till u really get a Good Muslim MAN??? what is more wise? What is more better, getting married to the wrong person or wait and act wise? read below?
I don't have the exact answer to your question in terms of which is wiser. However, I'd like to say that when the right person comes, you will definitely know it. I myself did not have an arranged marriage. But I did have proposals for an arranged marriage and I know how it feels. But all of my good friends who did have arranged marriages told me that they knew that this was the one once they met him.

You should look at the qualities of the man who proposes to you. But that's not enough. You should want to marry him too. Give your heart some room in guiding you.

And at the end, any woman should be convinced that the man she is getting married to is the right one, and not just get married because someone proposed to her.

I hope I managed to address your question, at least partially, even if my words are said indirectly.

All the best wishes sent to you from your sister Avenny. What is more better, getting married to the wrong person or wait and act wise? read below?
It is very important to wait until you find someone that you feel that you COULD love. If there is no attraction, better wait. It would also be wise to first read Al Fatiha and get Islamically married so you can spend time getting to know each other before you make a final decision. If you break up with him and there has been no intercourse, I believe the marriage can be annulled without consequence.
Waiting to get married to a good Muslim man, because isn't that what all Muslimahs want in the first place, a nice caring, loving Man.

It's not only smart its the better choice, instead of just rushing and marrying someone because he was good at proposal which doesn't always mean he is going to be good to you.
When you get a proposal you should act wisely. Thats allI can say. You should do some research regarding the groom. Like asking their neighbours secretly, or asking friends and relatives if they have heard about such a family and boy (in particular.) We had people come to our house asking about our neighbours. This looks strange but marriage is a important decision, worth enough some risk and research.

There will still be some amount of uncertainity. You cannot decide everything. A lot depends on the girl as well. Often she herself is a problem in a perfectly Utopian home. Daughter-in-laws dont have their hands washed with saffronned milk.

And how can you wait? For the good Muslim MAN you say, you will have the same dillemma's and encounter the same confusions. Just like a mobile phone. The more you wait the better model you get.But often the older versions are better than the newer ones. So what do you do in that case? Thrash the shopkeeper with you new set. Or just carry it along. In marriage you have an advantage, that your husband is not inanimate like your sell phone. He has a brain (I hope he has) and will listen to his wife and may change, soften his stand. Marriage is no easy matter for him as well.

Have your 100% faith in God. He will see through!!!

    TW K
i'd say wait.... in my parents country, the parents hook you up, you meet....then over a 6 month to 2 year span of time is the engagement. Lots of family dinners and phone calls. No one on one time in person.

Some people disagree about the phone calls, and i've heard others that say as long as it stays clean its fine.....this was before internet, so i suppose e-mails and ims would work now too.

I'd expect something like that at the very least, for myself.
first impressions arent always the the truth remember that..any1 can give a good proposal but this does not necessarily mean he is the right man 4 u..u shud get 2 no him and see if he is suitable 4 u.. u shud wait 4 a good muslim man hu has a clean heart and has u at his best interests and wil be a good life partner 4 u. Inshallah the rite one will come 2 u salam waleikom xx
I don't know how I'd know that the boy asking is shown good or he really is good!

I'd do what I and my parents would feel are better!

Of course parents would do some research and won't haste in saying yes to the one asking.
Thats not the way to do it ;)

You need to approve to not just the family, you need to get to know him and if you think he is good etc then move forward.

Where have you been you haven't been in touch?? ;(
Im a man but i would wait.. it's not good to rush cause if you rushed then 70% it will be not right.. So wait and find the one : - )
    patience is a virute

    =)
wait to get a good man

    in the end it better

Silly question but want to make sure. Have wedding planned there for September and I've just discovered I'm expecting. Are you allowed to get married in Mexico while pregnant?
If you're marrying outside the Catholic Church (predominant in Mexico) then you're good to go!

If you're marrying in the Church, you have problems. Are you allowed to get married in Mexico while pregnant?
I don't see why not, that would be silly for anyone to deny you the right to get married even if you are prego. Congrads and good luck
I wouldn't go there being pregnant. The swine flu is probably still there. And sept. is flu season, and it is expected to pick back up again worse. I'd make it for somewhere else.
you can get married anywhere if you are pregnant, I don't think that matters.

What are the divorce compensation laws for a housewife who has been married for 14 years in india? ?

Like in the US and Canada the spouse with lower or no income gets 50% in the absence of a pre nupital agreement, which are non-existant in India anyway. What are the divorce compensation laws for a housewife who has been married for 14 years in india? ?
Divorce compensation in India are basically in the form of Alimony or Permanent Maintenance on monthly or lump sum basis which the Spouse usually the wife can claim if she is unable to maintain herself as she doesn't have sufficient means to do so by way of monthly income or any property through which she can get enough amount for her livelihood. There also exists provision of the settlement of the property amongst the parties brought by them at the time of marriage. Each party to the marriage can take away his or her property during this settlement or get compensated by the other if that is kept by him/her for certain reasons. The concept of Stridhan also exist in case of Hindu females, this the exclusive property of the Hindu lady which she brings for her use or is presented to her at anytime for her use only, this includes both movable as well immovable property. The Hindu lady/wife has exclusive right over any of her Stridhan which no one can take or use hence that has to be returned to her without any condition by the husband if during this time was in his house or possession. In case of Muslim ladies/wives who got married according to Muslim Matrimonial laws/Shariat are supposed to get their amount of Mehar/Dower from their husband if that has not been claimed till the time of divorce, the Muslim man is supposed to give this amount to his wife which he promise to give at the time of marriage/Nikaha but if he failed to do so till now then before the divorce is finalised between them he is supposed to give her the Mehar/Dower amount to her. Apart from monetary compensation, there is also settlement of the custody of the children between the parents based on the well settled principle of 'the Welfare of the Children' based on various factors concerning the parents %26amp; the children %26amp; anyone parent on exclusive basis or both the parents are given the custody of the children on sharing basis, with visiting right to the other parent. There is no such concept of community property sharing on 50% basis which exist in country like USA/Canada, unless the property brought by them in both their names, in such case where there is no mention of the share of either of them both get equal portion at the time of settlement, but if the property stands in the name of one spouse only the other spouse doesn't get any part or share in that property as so happens in USA which is called sharing of the community property amongst the spouses. Hope this concept of divorce compensation in India is clear with you which only an Indian lawyer could tell you. What are the divorce compensation laws for a housewife who has been married for 14 years in india? ?
Usualy nothing. Only your gold bracelets stay with you.

How many years were you married before having kids?

For those of you who were married before getting pregnant, how long after marriage did you wait to have kids? Why did you wait the length of time that you did?How many years were you married before having kids?
After we got home from our honeymoon I got strept throat and was given antibiotics... I mean right after like 2 days after lol... little did I know and the doctor didn't tell me that the BC pill I was on would not work if I was taking the meds for the sore throat.. and well... now we are expecting and due Feb 5th :) So we waited about 2 weeks to a month lol... It was not planned the original plan was for me to get done with school (college) first guess God had other plansHow many years were you married before having kids?
We got pregnant a couple months before our 2nd wedding anniversary. We waited until we had our own home (not renting) and were both settled in our careers before discussing children. We got pregnant a little sooner than expected (got pregnant the VERY first try), but it worked out really well.
i have no kids, i'm not married. But when i DO get married i want to wait 2 years. This is so we can get used to being married, travel, and be with one another. Plus i'd rather move (if i had to move far away) before we try for a kid
When our girls are born we will be married for almost 6 years. We started trying after 3 years because I finished college but we had some difficulty.
We were married 7 years. It just worked out that way.

Can I live and get married after obtaining the approval process of the K-1 ?

The five months is for the initial approval process. It will take another similar period to get the visa. Buena suerte.

Can I live and get married after obtaining the approval process of the K-1 or I have to wait for another similar period to obtain a visa and then marry and live in USA?

please define exactly how the process goes, but don麓t give me the USCIS website, I already have this, I only need to know from people with experience in these processes. Thank you!Can I live and get married after obtaining the approval process of the K-1 ?
some countries take longer than other countries.

once you get the visa you will travel to the USA and will have 3 months to get married.

its usually takes anywhere from 9-14 months for the entire process.

be sure you are not currently residing in the USA.

or you will prolong the processCan I live and get married after obtaining the approval process of the K-1 ?
As someone else told you a little while ago, there's a waiting period for the decision on the I-129f petition. Usually it takes about five months, maybe more.

Once the I-129f is approved, it will be forwarded to the U.S. consulate near your home. You will have to make an appointment with the consulate for a visa interview. At that time, you will be expected to present a long list of supporting documents, and an visa officer will interview you.

If the K-1 visa is issued, you can use it to go to the U.S. and apply for admission as a K-1 nonimmigrant. If you are admitted as a K-1, you will be given a permit for 90 days during which time you will have to get married.

Then you must apply for permanent resident status at an immigration office inside the U.S. That is the orderly procedure for becoming a permanent resident through the fiance visa process.

No puedes entrar para vivir antes de recibes la visa y pasa por inmigraci贸n. Tienes que ir paso a paso hasta cada paso esta terminado.
You would apply for the K-1 visa and then get married and then I think just fill out some paperwork to say that you are now married. I don't think it's a long process like the initial approval was. Good luck to you. If you don't get the answer you are looking for post your question on www.immigrate2us.net forum
Assuming you are not now in the US, you must wait for the

K-1 visa to be issued, which as previously stated will take another several monthss. For some K-1 visa info see

What would you like to ask? Please predict when will i get married, will it be a love or an arranged marriage..?

My Date of birth is 13 May 1980 and i am born in Roorkee(Uttranchal) time is 2:30 pm. Can u also tell me if i will have a happy married life? What would you like to ask? Please predict when will i get married, will it be a love or an arranged marriage..?
It doesn't at all depend on the date %26amp; time of birth at all. It depends on your untiring efforts to search a suitable life partner. Write down the requisite qualifications of your life partner of your dream %26amp; tell your mother clearly. If you find one such suitable match, meet him with your parents before finalising the engagement. Be God fearing by heart %26amp; pray for the same too. Go for arranged marriage in which all details of both sides are thoroughly explored. In love marriage, only few things of attractions are considered ignoring most of necessary qualities. Married life needs knowledge of nominal nominal affairs, systematic time allocations for every aspect of in day-to-day life including entertainment, money saving, monthly budget making %26amp; expenditure control, slowly learning new things continuously(none of every couple is fully expert in each %26amp; everything of happy family life %26amp; actually, most of couples don't know 99 % things). Love %26amp; sex are not only ways of life, though being very important things. What would you like to ask? Please predict when will i get married, will it be a love or an arranged marriage..?
You can't rely on others to tell you your future. You are the person who determines what happens to you. If you want to be happily married...if you try hard enough...you will find someone and live a happy life together. It's all in what you want to do to make it happen.
no 1 can talk about ur future

Has anyone, or their new husband had a panic attack about being married the day after the wedding?

Got married on Saturday, it was a great day we were both really happy. The next morning, new hubby starts crying and saying how he has this horrible feeling in his stomach like he's done something really wrong. We'd been together 3 years b4 engaged, engaged 8 months b4 wedding. We've also had a really good relationship, so I don't know why he'd react like this. Has anyone or their new hubby experienced this? What was going on? Does it pass?Has anyone, or their new husband had a panic attack about being married the day after the wedding?
Maybe he was scared the day you got married too, but because so much was going on, and the adrenaline was rushing, it didn't hit him until the next day. Maybe his panic attack had nothing to do with you. I had a small panic attack the day I got married; I was standing next to a door leading to the outside, and I felt like running away, but I knew if I did, I'd be running away from the one thing I had wanted all my life, so I stayed, and I've never regretted it.

It's ok to wonder if you did the right thing, but just remind him of what got you two together in the first place, and he should be ok. Good luck.Has anyone, or their new husband had a panic attack about being married the day after the wedding?
Honey don't panic this has not happen to me but keep in mind marriage is a HUGE step it is a life long commitment. He is not thinking about all of the responsiblity he is probably just a little scared... It does not mean he does not love you he is just a little freaked out.
I used to have major strong panic attacks back in 1990. I had to take strong meds for that! I would freak out when ever I was in around large crowds of people. Try this this might help! When you go to bed together, sleep in this small mattress tightly snuggle up together and tell him to calm down and relax.
Nope, me and my hubby was and still is very much in love w/one another to feel that way,but i guess he's just getting the after wedding jitters, which is supposed to take place before the wedding, but i hope for ur sake it passes!
Maybe it is all just hitting him now and he is feeling overwhelmed. He is probably thinking about all his responsibilities now that he is a husband. I would just keep reassuring him and make him feel loved.
He's just feeling the weight of everything. I've heard people say that the 1st year of marriage is the hardest. Give it some time %26amp; don't hold it against him.
I really hope it does pass, I guess it just hit him all of a sudden that wow I'm married now.
I will say he regrets of the marriage. He wants his freedom back. Watch him closely. Don't let him cheat you.

  • Is it ok for a married woman to go out dancing witha nother man?

Since the husband doesn't like to dance would be ok to find a man just to dance with? or is it crossing deadly waters? Is it ok for a married woman to go out dancing witha nother man?
Well dancers have partners and they don't have to be their spouses. Unless you have other motives, it should be totally fine.Is it ok for a married woman to go out dancing witha nother man?
This is something to bring up with the husband. Just float it casually, if he's not comfortable, then don't. If he says ';Sure, fine.'; then have fun.
I would consider it unwise, it opens the door to the development of an adulterous relationship.
well if he said ''sure go its ok with me'' he's lying, well just think about it how would you feel if he went and danced with another lady other than you would it be ok or not? but i think he would mind
It's done a lot more often than you might think. On the other hand, it may be safer, like Caesar's wife, to avoid even the appearance of impropriety. A lot of ladies go in groups or stick to venues that are essentially group activities. I dance with a lot of married ladies whose husbands either don't dance or do so reluctantly, and I find they don't mind if everybody has a little sensitivity about the situation.
Depends on the type of music.

    Are we talking classy dancing?

Or bump and grind rubbing all your junk on eachother's knee-cap.
just make sure that the other man is a close friend and don't go out every night- just once and a while. Don't go bar hoping and getting drunk and dancing with stangers. But you probably knew that huh?
not alone. if he likes to play tennis and you don't how would you feel if he went to play tennis with a lady friend?

if you're going together (you and hubby along with friends and he's ok with it then sure go for it or if your other man friend is gay then your hubby may be okay with it) I agree it also depends on what kind of dance, I wouldn't slow dance with another guy or get freaky on the floor. That's should really be reserved for your husband. If you're into ballroom or swing and need a partner then that could be okay but remember, women usually swoon in the arms of a great male dancer... so be sure you know yourself and your emotions.

If you really love to dance that much talk it over with hubby and tell him how much dancing means to you and ask him what would he be comfortable with - might be nice to mention that you would love to dance with him if he would give it a try maybe once a month with ya.

    Good luck!
Well, I guess when you asked this question, you are not just looking for a dance. You might looking way forward than what you asked.

Be clear to what you want, also be clear when you communicate with your husband. You will find the answer by your own.

Trust me, you would prefer the person you dance with is your hubby than another guys out there. You might not knowing now, but you will find out later. :P

I am a Canadian First Nations Indian and got married in the Us does that make a citizen of the U.S?

I know that the U.S and Canadian Govt's have an agreement as far as working and living goes, but I am not sure what I would have to do to get some U.S Gov't assistance in the U.S if I should ever need it. Do I have to apply for U.S citizenship? And how does a First Nation indian go about doing that?I am a Canadian First Nations Indian and got married in the Us does that make a citizen of the U.S?
If you are a First Nations member and 50% or more Native American by blood, you do not have to apply for citizenship. The only benefit of citizenship would be the right to vote.

As a North American Indian, you can freely cross the border for the purpose of immigration, work, education and trade.

    This is a Treaty right.

Article III of the Jay Treaty declared the right of American Indians born in Canada to trade and travel between the United States and Canada,

This right was restated in section 289 of the 1952 U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Act.

Currently codified as 8 U.S.C. § 1359: Nothing in this title shall be construed to affect the right of American Indians born in Canada to pass the borders of the United States, but such right shall extend only to persons who possess at least 50 per centum of blood of the American Indian race.

Although an artificial border was placed through our territory. That border does not extinguish your right to our traditional lands.

You will be subject to all the same laws, and entitled to work and contribute to the social security system like any other American.

All you need to do is to apply for your social security card. That is the main identification card that you will need.

.I am a Canadian First Nations Indian and got married in the Us does that make a citizen of the U.S?
you have to go to immigration and fill out some papers..they'll tell you what exactly...that's going to be your proof of you staying legally in US...and you won't be able to get any gov't assistent unless you are an american citizen...
Your spouse must petition for you to be allowed to stay. They must change your status to a spousal visa ASAP. Check out CIS website

And you do make things a LOT worse by talking about getting welfare. It is possible that you ONLY married the American, to gain those benefits. Whats wrong with staying in Canada to get them?
Govt assistance ??? Go back to Canada! You make immigrants look bad by leaching off the system, that is if by government assistance you mean welfare.
i am getting tired of people like you you haven't been here you're already thinking of Gov't '***' istance just stay where ever you are we don't need another of you here get it or move to UR Anus insteads
NO No you're not one of US yet you must apply for naturalization after 3 full yrs of residency
no, you must be born here,or go through customs and become a citizen. good luck on getting through to immigration they are swamped at this time. by the way welcome .
First, did you married an american?

if you didn't this is an awfully stupid question.

If you did then, you have to apply for naturalization.

But dude, you really sound like you got married just for a green card, and that is awfully sad. Plus in order to be elligible to get citizenship your marriage must be economically stable or you won't be granted with a green card, so goverment assistance will not look good in your record when you apply for citizenship. So ou better work your *** out or go back to Canada or India!!!
You don't get government assistance if you marry an American and move to the US. That's why they go through the paperwork process.. they don't allow immigrants into the country who need assistance. If your husband can prove that he can support you without welfare,etc.. then you'll be approved. Being a First Nation Indian in Canada benefits you in CANADA.. NOT THE UNITED STATES. You're not a citizen either.

Can a resident of mississippi under 21 be legally married in another state?

The legal age of majority in most states is 18, but in Mississippi it is 21. So, you can't get married until 21 without your parents' permission. (Actually they notify your parents and allow you to if your parents don't respond and say you can't after a certain amount of time.. but my parents would.)

Could someone that is 18, and a legal resident of Mississippi, be able to legally get married in another state? And if so, would it be recognized in the state of MS?Can a resident of mississippi under 21 be legally married in another state?
yes, people from all over the country flock to Las Vegas to get married. Can a resident of mississippi under 21 be legally married in another state?
Once you're married - you're married no matter what state you live in.
Yes, it would be legally recognized in all states.

Why are more people shacking up rather than getting married?

Okay I was just wondering why so many couple are choosing not to get married but still living together and having kids?? This confuses me it pretty much requires the same level of commitment why not make it legal. I know brangelina says they wont get married til gays can but i don't think this is the answer for the majority. Can anybody in a similar situation help me understand this?

A question like this is probably better suited in a different category but gender and womens studies is so much more funWhy are more people shacking up rather than getting married?
    Different reasons for different people:

    1) People think marriage is a piece of paper and do not give it any spiritual significance. Marriage based on love of God is much more than that. For people who are not religious, marriage simply would not offer more.

    2) Financial reasons - they don't think they can afford a wedding; one partner has bad credit; legal reasons - i.e., they live in a ';community property'; state like Wisconsin that says any property received during the marriage belongs equally to both. If one partner is a spendthrift and the other wants to keep a nestegg for retirement, this will be a problem. One partner's debts make both liable to creditors.

    3) They're just pigs. They want the benefits of marriage but not the commitment.

    4) One person wants to be married; the other doesn't. The first person has an ';I'll take what I can get'; attitude. Why are more people shacking up rather than getting married?
I don't see why marriage is such a big deal. Most people get divorced, anyway!

I believe it is because people are afraid to make a lifelong commitment. They are somewhat insecure in their choices, so they have the ';fail-safe'; of being able to pull out anytime they think they need to. But in the meantime, why buy the cow if you can get the milk for free?

Incidentally, I don't agree with this lifestyle because I believe that it hurts everyone involved: ';partners'; and their children.
-I've been married, and it sucked. Half the reason was the sexist assumptions made about marriage and the sexist things strangers, acquaintances, co-workers, and family members would say to my ex-husband and I.

-My parent's marriage was not great, yet they stayed together, and a big part of it was because they had made a commitment. Some marriages should end.

-I don't like love associated with taxes and property. Gross.

-I'm not religious or traditional, and despise the whole wedding hoopla and expense. I think it's a total waste of money and effort. If others want it, fine, but I don't.

-I'm bi and don't want to marry unless my friends can, if they want to.

-Marriage doesn't guarantee fidelity, commitment or love.

    -People make commitments, not ceremonies.
Basically society (other married men) tells men that marriage means a mess of laws that will screw him over later in favour of the woman if they ever divorce, less passion, an expensive wedding he cares nothing about that leaves him broke for the next 5 years paying it off...

So... a guy would want to get married to her when he can just live happily ever after with her, why ?

It does't matter whether its true or not; you hear it enough times you start to believe it.

Marriage also has nothing to do with committment anymore; you can get divorced so easily, it really lacks any meaning, just a bunch of legal nonsense you could do without if something changes and you do leave each other...
    times are a changin

if life was more secure, so would relations

however, this current life is so fickle who knows what historical turn we will see in the near future that will further destabilize our way of life
In this respect, I am probably more traditional than most others on this forum..so I expect thumbs down.

I don't judge others..but I tend to agree with you as my personal preference. Research has shown that cohabitation is significantly correlated with a plethora of negative things..infidelity, domestic abuse, less satisfying sex, less satisfying marriage if they eventually do wed, less financial stability, etc. etc.

I know people are not statistics, but the research is so significant and so consistent that it's hard to ignore.

If you don't feel that you have to, then why do it? It makes for the split so much more less painful. It's kinda paradoxical, don't ya think?
    To avoid commitment
Because marriage is just a piece of paper. Whats the difference? Commitment is commitment. You don't need a piece of paper to prove your committed to someone. You prove it by not leaving.
Because it is easier to get married than divorced.
I just don't see the need for the piece of paper. I have been married once and it wont' guarantee anything but tax cuts %26amp; legal benefits, and ';social acceptance';. I would rather keep the excitement by calling him my boyfriend than ';husband.'; I don't need the fear, guilt and obligations that the word marriage enforce to commit to someone, as I don't believe the piece of paper to guarantee anything more than a regular commitment.
Because men are non-commital and women have such low self esteem. Been there..done that and I regret all 12 years of it. Now I'm dying because he wouldn't provide my health care and he's out dancing with a different woman every night. Don't ever commit to a man that won't commit to you!
People don't have to commit to each other, because they don't rely on each other for survival anymore.
Hanna E, you hit the nail on the head. I believe that your answer is exactly why people dodge marriage all together. It's also important to point out that some people go into relationships like these with hopes/promise of eventually getting married but they get strung along by their dishonest partner.
The only point in marriage is for the extra legal benefits that you get.. If you can work around that small bit-then what's the point? Do you really need a document to declare your love? Marriage sounds like too much trouble to me.

You can still be in a committed relationship and not married..
There are a number of answers: Unnecessary, financial reasons, political reasons. To each their own.

What steps do I need to take to get married at the courthouse?

It depends on how fancy you want to get and how busy your local courthouse is. In places like NYC, they have a whole office that's devoted to just weddings, but you can't usually bring in a whole mess of people.

We got our marriage license a month before the wedding. In WA, there is a 3-day waiting period, meaning you cannot get married until 3 days after the license is issued. Our licenses are good for 60 days, so we didn't want to be rushing around beforehand.

Next, I called our courthouse, made an appointment with the judge (they do weddings either before court opens for the day or after it closes). We got married at 4:30 in the afternoon. We had 20 guests, and could have had flowers, videographer, photographer, decorations - anything we wanted as long as we brought it in and took it out. It was $50 cash to the judge and you gave it to him in the envelope with your marriage license.

Check your local auditors office or City Hall website to see what you need to do in your state. What steps do I need to take to get married at the courthouse?
You need to apply for a marriage license first. In my State you can do this online but just look it up for your County. Type in ';marriage license'; with your County %26amp; State %26amp; that should direct you to the right page with the info %26amp; address of the Court if you can't apply online. The fee varies by State. Mine is around $80. Then you make an appointment for the actual ceremony %26amp; that's that. After the ceremony you %26amp; your husband sign the license %26amp; so does the person who married you, and whatever witness or witnesses you bring, and then the person that married you (most likely the Clerk Recorder) will then record your license %26amp; send you the official marriage certificate in the mail a couple of weeks later. What steps do I need to take to get married at the courthouse?
You need to first talk to a J.P. and see who can officiate your wedding. Then, you go buy your marriage license no sooner than two days before your wedding (that's the Texas law, maybe look up the law in your state). Congrats on getting married!
Two days before the wedding, drive to city hall during business hrs.

    Purchase license .

Ask city hall while you're there what hours are for weddings.

Bring your witnesses and have the wedding later that week.

My daughter married a man from England. Do we need to pay $1K to get a social security card for him?

We were sent some papers that said IF you need to file this form then you must pay $1K at filing. It didn't say it was absolutely necessary to file it. Any one is this same boat?

He filed a form and gave all kinds of letters from everyone and copy of marriage license, etc.

Any one have to do this?My daughter married a man from England. Do we need to pay $1K to get a social security card for him?
If he wants to live in the USA the total cost to file for him will be $1,365 plus about $350 for a physical exam.

The form you are writing about is I-485 and the cost to file that is $1,010. Yes, it's required. The fees are designed to cover the actual cost of processing the forms. Taxpayers do not subsidize the cost.

You are filing so that he can get his Green Card, not a social security card.My daughter married a man from England. Do we need to pay $1K to get a social security card for him?
There is never a charge to get a valid Social Security card. It sounds like a scam.
What the hell are you reading ....

If you mean the whole AOS package that is more that a $1000

but you dont pay a $1k for a SSN

Online dating will help us to add friends or may be more, to find our soul mate. I think if you want to be a member a online dating site, it is okay, and don't worry to every thing that are not coming yet, but you should be carefful, and try to be fun and enjoy the dating, and you can tell the truth to your partnet if you don't want to get married soon, and give the reason. With the good manner and reason I am sure your partner will understand
I've heard lots of success stories. My cousin and her husband met on Match and they've been happily married for two years. My sister met her husband on Yahoo Personals and also happily married for two years. Not that you have to be wanting marriage, but I consider the fact that they're married to be a success story. I think you can put on your profile what you're looking for in a relationship. Good luck!
Well from my experience no. Most are not who they appear to be. fake profiles and all. Just be very careful the information you give out over the internet. You can belong and just meet ppl.You dont have to get married. My advice would be meet someone at dances group meetings. Also thereshould be singles meetings in your town. Would be alot safer for you. good luck
The best most trusted site in the world for any level of online dating is Match.com. I've tried it and its work out quite well. Ive met a ton of people some I like some I didn't. I met my fiancee through an online dating site. I also met ex-girlfriends through online dating sites and offline as well. There's all types regardless of how you meet or which online dating site you use. If you're interested in a committed relationship but not in a hurry, I think you'd be more than welcome at any dating site--even eHarmony, although they might not promote that heavily. ;-)

For the married ladies, what stuff did you skip and not regret doing so?

What stuff at your wedding that alot of people consider to be must-haves (or not) did you decide not to include and were glad with your choice?

On the same thread, is there anything you skipped or scrimped on that you wish you didn't?For the married ladies, what stuff did you skip and not regret doing so?
Photography is the lasting memory you have of your wedding. Make sure that you click well with the photographer and totally trust in them, cause on the day you don't have to worry that they are getting the right photos that you want.

If I had my time over I would definitely arrange for a pre-wedding shoot to test the photographer to ensure we get along with them and they get a flair of what we would like in the shots. For the married ladies, what stuff did you skip and not regret doing so?
This is such as awesome question! I was actually going to ask it in a couple of days.

Anyway, my wedding isn't until next February, but I have been doing a lot of research on this exact topic. One of the things that I have found on message boards is that people wish they would have had a videographer. I actually just watched one of my BM's wedding video and it was so sweet. I have definately decided that I'm going to spend the extra money and get a videographer and *of course* a great photographer.

I'm comtemplating Save The Dates, but after reading these posts, I think I'm going to skip them. I wanted the magnet ones but I think thats just because I like magnets! :)

I'm also skipping assigned seating and the limo, but I'm def going to do the garter/flower toss. And, I'm skipping the unity candle.

Haven't really decided on anything else, but I want our wedding to be simple and elegant. No crazy flair! (But, I am wearing orange shoes!!)
I also wished I spent more on my photographer. I also bought cheap shoes. Wish I bought nice shoes cause the pictures could have been very cute, plus your feet can hurt. I also got few flowers and glad I did that. Flower die and the only flowers that anyone notice was my bouquet. I would suggest going minimum on boys flowers and no display flowers. We went to costco and got a 2 dozen roses for $40 and used 1 dozen for the flower girl pedals and 1 dozen we separated into three and tired a ribbon around it that matched my colors and my JR. Bridesmaids used that. Also I did not spend alot of money on my cake. Cake is cake! Yes they can look pretty, but noby remembers your cake.
assigned seating! I was so glad that I did not do that. I know a lot of people think that you have to have assigned seating at a wedding, but I definitely did not like the idea of figuring out who would like to sit with who. I decided that everyone can fend for themselves. I actually had a lot of people thank me for that...they felt like they could sit where and with whom they wanted.
My wedding is on April 17th, so I probably won't know for sure until then. But I could definitely tell you what we saved on: we decided to eliminate programs, which is more time consuming than anything else (if someone doesn't know that the vows go AFTER walking down the aisle, that's their problem...lol) Also, the stupid cameras on each table (seriously, we're paying $2,700 for a pro, I don't need a bunch of amateur shots).

Everyone says save on save the dates but ours are customized large magnets with our picture on them and only cost us $30 for 25 pieces (we didn't send them to everyone, just our closest family and friends). We wound up saving A LOT on wedding rings because we shopped the after New Year's sales in New Hampshire (my parents live here) where there is no tax. Also, we shopped around a lot online for miscellaneous items and bridesmaid/groomsmen/parent gifts, so that saved a bundle too.

As far as must haves, the honeymoon is super important because it's not just for 1 day and extends our special celebration. We totally splurged on that. Also, photography, FOOD and drinks (super important, we're splurging on top-shelf open bar and seafood) as well as decor (flowers mostly). Everything else is easy to save on, you just have to know where to look.

    Great question! =)
tons of people. I was happy with the 6 people that I had. I also didn't have a huge tiered cake. I had a one layer cake. It was beautiful, small, I designed it myself, and best of all the best cake I'd ever tasted in my life.

I didn't walk up an aisle, I got married at the courthouse, and I really wanted that.
We are skipping save the date cards and RSVP cards. No one RSVP's in Utah, even if you provide an email address. So sending a card back in the mail? Yeah right.

I'm not making my bridesmaids get the same dress, they can choose one in one of 4 colors. That will help them out. My sister found one for $25.

I'm not getting a veil. I think its uneccessary and annoying. Plus that's a $100 I can keep.

We are not scrimping on the keepsakes however: dress, photos and rings.

We found the cheapest location and are getting the cheapest buffet option. Its still a nice buffet, but we didn't think spending $8-80 a person was A)within our budget B)Necessary. Our day, not theirs, why should we feed them a fancy sit down dinner?
we skipped the bouquet/garter toss. Instead we had all the married couple come out to the floor and dance while the band started dismissing couples by the years they've been married. The couple who were married the longest won my bouquet along with a bottle of wine we prepared. I still think it was a good choice
a good photographer. that is the only thing i consider to be a must-have! but in all honesty my mum's old saying still holds true:

all you really need is the bride, the groom, a couple of rings and a preacher - everything else is just stuff!
My mother in-law was upset, she did not wanted me to wed her son. She was not invited....I had a blast. Ive been happily married to my hysband for 15 years, have 3 beautiful children, and my mother in law still does not like me. Just because I was married before.
We didn't have a limo, we made our own wedding invites, we kept our bridal party small, we didn't do the bouquet toss or the garter thing.
We skipped save the dates. Unnecessary, IMO.

I wish I had been able to spend more on flowers. I also wish I had done a bit more shopping before I bought my dress.
I skipped the whole throwing bouquet/garter ceremony.....and i was happy! I never liked having to catch the bouquet, all my friends groan when this comes up!
making sure yr photographer knows what hes doing . im a photographer and hired another one my pics look graing there is not one pic that i can enlarge crummy job. take pics of all your guest
Limo. I dont see what the big deal is with limos.

How can i find out if someone is legally married in the state of texas?

Just call the city auditor for the city where he lives and they will be able to tell you if that is where he got married. If not, you need to find the location where he may have gotten married and then they will be able to help you.

Your Estate. (Not to be confused with your State)
ignore rainy day - bankruptcy does not cost only $65 and if you're forced to file chap 13, your debts are not erased - you go on a payment plan
Transfer your share of the house and ';sell'; anything you want to keep to someone you trust. (wife, son, etc). Then declare bankruptcy.

Whats the problem. Do the bankruptcy. Start all over again!! Hospital bills are written off anyways. Think about it! One Tylenol $65.00!! Do the bankruptcy! You can do one every 7 years!

sell it at your husband death. So you check with a Real Estate Attorney and sell your half of the house to him

for a dollar so they can't touch it. And why don't you call

your local news station and make a plea for help, lots

of people do that and then you hear again on the news

about all the money and thank yous.
your spouse would be responsible for paying. but if you have good life insurance coverage it should cover the bill and probably even leave some extra for your family.
Im sure it will be your wife. It goes down the line.
This is not a direct answer to your question. Can you get finiancial aid? Check with the hospital--finiancial aid department. They will not help with doctor bills but they might help with hospital bills.

My sister is 17 and never had her drivers license or permit and she is legally married with parents consent. Can she get her permit without proof of school since she is married?

I didn't work in 2007, do we still file our taxes as ';joint'; or will my husband file ';married separately';?

I went to school in 2007 and did not work. Do we still file as ';married joint'; even though I didn't work or does he file as ';married separately';I didn't work in 2007, do we still file our taxes as ';joint'; or will my husband file ';married separately';?
File jointly. You will get killed filing separately. No reason to do that. If you went to school, you may be eligible for the hope credit or the lifetime learning credit. This could be a windfall for you and your husband. Don't miss out on it.I didn't work in 2007, do we still file our taxes as ';joint'; or will my husband file ';married separately';?
File a joint return, you'll pay less tax that way. Filing joint doesn't mean both people had income, you can file that way even if one person made all the income.
Joint return is likely to save a lot on the tax liability.
I am a SAHM and we always file married filing jointly. We always go to a tax prep place and that's how they do it.
You will be better filing married filing jointly so he can get the exemption of 3,400 for you.

Did you pay tuition, if yes you could be due a credit. Do you have children that went to daycare so you could go to school, if yes you can deduct the expense. These are two deductions you would also lose if you filed separately.
Run the numbers both ways and see which comes out the best for you. There's no rule about which way you have to file.

It almost always works out best for a couple to file jointly rather than separately.
